Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits clash in a crucial Absa Premiership top-of-the-table encounter at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday evening.
The game has been made all the more important after Kaizer Chiefs dropped points in a 2-1 defeat to SuperSport United on Saturday.
It now means that Sundowns, who romped to a comprehensive 3-0 victory over AmaZulu on Saturday night, trail Chiefs by four points while Wits will go level with the Amakhosi should they win their three remaining games in hand over the Glamour Boys.
Sundowns have taken 13 points from their last available 15, while Wits have won three of their last four, coming off the back of a 2-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC on Saturday.
The last time the sides met back in December, they played to a 1-1 draw with Gaston Sirino giving the Brazilians the lead before Gift Motupa levelled matters for the Clever Boys to claim a share of the spoils.
Masandawana have a host of injuries up front, with Jose Ali Meza, Mauricio Affonso, Phakamani Mahlambi and Gaston Sirino all having been sidelined for the Usuthu clash.
Siphelele Mkhulise has stepped up to the plate while Sibusiso Vilakazi has come good for the men from Chloorkop, having scored in his last two appearances.
“I’m happy for Vila, you know, he scored the goal in two games. He’s really putting pressure on me, saying, ‘I must play and I must score,’” Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane told SuperSport TV of Vilakazi.
Meanwhile, Wits will be without the services of Thabang Monare, who picked up his fourth yellow card of the season in the win over Stellies and Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt admitted his absence would be a big loss..
“Now, we have Thabang (Monare) out, (against Stellenbosch) I had Haashim (Domingo) out, (Elias) Pelembe out, Cole (Alexander) out and those are four players who play in our team every week," Hunt said.
“Obviously (we will miss Monare against Sundowns), in midfield, it’s tough and tight.
“Robyn left us, Scott left us, (Carl) Lark has left us, that’s why I brought the kid, Human, I only signed him yesterday. Maybe we don’t play with a striker, we will see, we will work it out."
