The Republic of Ireland and Switzerland haven't face one another in a competitive fixture since a goalless draw in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup, which Switzerland ultimately qualified for ahead of Ireland.

It's been a tumultuous couple of years for the Republic Of Ireland after sacking Martin O'Neill, but they've start off in good form and generally stay competitive in Euro qualifying fixtures. They've lost just two of their last 25 European Championship qualifiers, winning 14, drawing nine and losing two, while they've won each of the last five on home soil.

Expect Mick McCarthy to go with Sheffield United's Callum Robinson up top, following his goal in last weekend's 2-2 draw away to Chelsea for his club. A stacked midfield will feature Jeff Hendrick, the veteran Glenn Whelan and Conor Hourihane in the centre of a 4-5-1 formation.

But Switzerland travel to Dublin having an emphatic record in qualifying themselves, Switzerland have won 18 of their last 22 qualifying matches for the World Cup and Euros, although they failed to win in their last qualifier against Denmark, a remarkable 3-3 draw back in March, while they lost to Portugal (3-1) and then to England on penalties after a goalless draw in the summer's Nations League final four.

They travel to the Aviva without key man Xherdan Shaqiri, but do have Benfica striker Haris Seferovic.

With both teams competitive in qualifying, expect a tightly contested game. We recommend backing both teams to score and draw, as in Switzerland's last qualifier against Denmark in March.
