Unchanged Leicester almost scored twice in the first 10 minutes, former Newcastle United star Perez heading Harvey Barnes’ cross against the crossbar before Mat Ryan did extremely well to deny Vardy.
Barnes’ low strike was then deflected wide by Dan Burn as the Seagulls struggled to get a foothold in the match, while James Maddison’s free-kick failed to trouble Ryan.
Brighton did not test Kasper Schmeichel in the Leicester goal throughout the encounter and it came as no surprise when the visitors broke the deadlock in the 64th minute, Perez getting on the end of Vardy’s cross and beating Ryan.
The Seagulls goalkeeper stopped Leicester scoring again when he denied Vardy from close range before, in a very rare Brighton attack, Neal Maupay’s shot was deflected over the bar by Caglar Soyunca.
However, Leicester wrapped up the three points in the 82nd minute with a penalty after Adam Webster had fouled Demarai Gray.
Vardy’s initial effort was saved but the spot-kick had to be retaken for encroachment and the former Fleetwood Town striker made no mistake with his second attempt.
Graham Potter’s team were second best throughout the 90 minutes and it will not get any easier for them next weekend as they face runaway leaders Liverpool at Anfield.
