Bournemouth have been in impressive form over recent weeks, recording back-to-back wins over Everton and Southampton to move into the top-six of the Premier League standings.
However, a much-changed team needed penalties to see off League Two outfit Forest Green in the second round of the Carabao Cup and they will now come up against last season’s semi-finalists Burton for a place in the last-16.
Despite their relative struggles against Forest Green, Howe still plans to rotate against the Brewers, with Simon Francis and Lloyd Kelly set to feature, as they make their comebacks from long-term injury.
Experienced defender Francis has been sidelined since December with a knee ligament problem, while summer signing Kelly is yet to make his debut for the club due to an ankle problem.
Ryan Fraser is likely to play some part after being used from the bench in Bournemouth’s last two games, while the likes of Jordan Ibe, Andrew Surman and Chris Mepham will also be hoping to get some minutes under their belts.
“We enter a three-game week and we know we’re going to have to manage players, so there’s a couple of concerns. I don’t think there’s anything too major, but we’ll rotate the team for Burton,” Howe told reporters.
“We’ll give some players an opportunity to impress and I’m looking forward to seeing them in action.”
League One Burton beat the likes of Burnley, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough on their way through to the semi-finals last season and they have been in impressive form under Nigel Clough of late, losing just one of their last eight games.
The Brewers will be boosted by the return of defender John-Joe O’Toole following suspension, although midfielder Colin Daniel is now banned.
John Brayford picked up a calf injury during the weekend clash with Tranmere and will definitely miss out on Wednesday, while Stephen Quinn is a major doubt with a knee problem.
Jake Buxton and Scott Fraser will also be assessed ahead of kick-off due to rib and ankle issues respectively.
