James McClean an injury doubt for Stokes game against Sheffield Wednesday
Stoke will check on the fitness of Stephen Ward and James McClean ahead of the Boxing Day clash at home to Sheffield Wednesday.
Both players were injured during Friday’s defeat at Middlesbrough. Ward has a stiff back after receiving a knock while McClean is the biggest doubt with a hamstring injury.
Ryan Woods and Peter Etebo were absent against Boro because of illness but, like skipper Ryan Shawcross, are back in training ahead of the visit of the Owls.
Meanwhile, Josh Tymon has been recalled from his loan spell with Portuguese top-flight side Famalicao. However, the full-back will be unavailable for selection until January.
Sheffield Wednesday will assess Steven Fletcher and Morgan Fox.
Striker Fletcher missed the home win against Bristol City on Sunday through illness, while defender Fox suffered a suspected mild concussion in that match.
Midfielder Sam Hutchinson returns to contention after serving a two-match ban while forward Fernando Forestieri (knee) is another player who will be monitored.
The Owls are third in the table after four wins in a five-match unbeaten run.
