McNair picked up a fifth yellow card and a one-match suspension as Boro’s three-game unbeaten run was ended by a heavy 4-0 defeat to Leeds last weekend.
Johnson still has a match to serve of his three-game ban after his red card against Hull.
Anfernee Dijksteel, Ryan Shotton, Marcus Browne, Darren Randolph and Rudy Gestede all remain sidelined.
